Dr Pranit Anand is a Lecturer, Learning Design at the Queensland University of Technology (since 2019),
Brisbane. Prior to this he was lecturer in Computing Studies at the University of Wollongong (18 years), Sunway
University Malaysia (4 years) and the Fiji Institute of Technology (2 years). He has a PhD in Education focusing on
effective use of mobile technologies to develop students’ motivation to learn and their self-regulation skills.
Over the years Pranit has explored meaningful uses of educational technologies in different settings, but
significantly ways to use technology to engage diverse cohorts of students, particularly those from various
marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds. He recognises the power of assessments in higher education to
engage students in the learning process, but also how many forms of assessments play such demotivating roles in
students lives. Towards this Pranit continues to investigate alternate forms of assessments such as Digital
Storytelling, Open Internet Examinations, and Collaborative Social Projects, among others to help educators
engage students, and allow them to demonstrate their true capabilities.
During this presentation Pranit will share some of these alternate forms of authentic online assessments that
may help us move away from many of the traditional forms of assessments.
