Dr Ronald Kumar is the Director of Research at Fiji National University and is based in the Research Office at the Nasinu campus. He coordinates the general functions of the Research Office, more specifically, is charged to coordinate the HDR programmes - Masters by Research and Doctor of Philosophy. Prior to this, Ronald was a part-time educator at the University of the South Pacific, facilitating undergraduate and postgraduate courses in education. He was also the

lecturer for the International Diploma in Tertiary Teaching programme at Fiji Institute of Technology (now known as FNU). Dr Kumar has served as the Principal and the Chief Executive Officer of an international primary school in Suva. He also has served the Government of Fiji, the Ministry of Education as a secondary school teacher and HoD for a decade. His interests are in HDR programmes, supervision, and leadership. He attained his Doctor of Philosophy Degree from The Regional University - The University of the South Pacific.

In his presentation, Ronald will discuss how the HDR student and supervisor relationship could be strengthened during the new normal when universities are generally closed, and students are working on their dissertations via online mode. He will share his experiences based on the FNU HDR programmes and help explain what other Universities in the South Pacific region can do to continue HDR programmes during uncertain and turbulent times.
